Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Unsalted Butter
- 2 cups Granulated Sugar
- 1/4 cup Water
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Chopped Nuts (Optional)
Instructions
- Prepare your workspace by gathering all ingredients and tools, including a heavy-bottomed saucepan and a candy thermometer.
- In the saucepan, mix the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and water over medium heat. Stir continuously until well combined and melted.
- Once combined, increase heat to medium-high, stirring occasionally to avoid burning.
- Using a candy thermometer, monitor the mixture, aiming for 300°F to 310°F (hard crack stage).
- When the desired temperature is reached, remove from heat and stir in the salt.
- If using chopped nuts, fold them in quickly at this stage.
- Line a baking dish with parchment paper and pour the hot toffee mixture onto it, spreading evenly.
- Allow the toffee to cool at room temperature for at least one hour until set.
- Once cool, break the toffee into pieces and store in an airtight container.
