- 4–6 medium Fresh Apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/4 cup Fresh Mint Leaves, packed and finely chopped
- 1/4–1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
- 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed
- 1/2 cup Water
- 1 pinch Ground Cinnamon (Optional)
Instructions
- Prepare your ingredients: Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples into small cubes. Rinse and finely chop the mint leaves.
- Combine in a saucepan: In a large saucepan, combine the chopped apples, water, and lemon juice.
- Cook the apples: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring it to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
- Test the texture: After about 10 minutes, check the apples; they should be tender enough to mash easily.
- Mash the apples: Remove from heat and mash the apples to your desired consistency.
- Add sugar and mint: Return to low heat, add sugar and chopped mint, stirring well.
- Simmer with cinnamon: If using, sprinkle in cinnamon and let simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
- Cool and jar: Let the sauce cool slightly before ladling into sterilized jars, sealing tightly, and refrigerating.
Notes
For a healthier version, reduce the sugar or try natural sweeteners. Store in airtight jars in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or freeze for up to six months.
